Hotel Arulakam, Thampanoor

One of the oldest vegetarian restaurants in the city. Famous for its Channa Batoora.

Hotel Aruna, Palayam

Superior quality food located by the MG road side. Parking facility is not available.

Non-veg Restaurants

Hotel Buhari, Pazhavangadi

One of the oldest restaurants in the city. Popular for Idiyappam served with spicy mutton chaps. You can go and have your tummy filled even in the late nights, as it operates in a 24*7 environment.

Open House, Kunnumpuram

The best chilly chicken in the city is cooked from their kitchen. Have some crispy parathas/steamy fried rice with their desi, not-so-Chinese chilly chicken. Recently, they introduced sea food in their menu. Doors are open till 10 pm.

Zam Zam Restaurant, Palayam

They are believed to introduce the Arabian flavours to Trivandrum. Try a plate of Chicken Shawayya with a piece of Khubz dipped in their special Mayo. Really an arabian magic it is!!. Go around 9 pm to get a table ready within 9:30, especially in weekends. Or reserve a table if your gang strength is good enough.

Sagara Restaurant, Anayara, NH 66 Bypass

A dedicated restaurant for seafood lovers. You name any species, they have it in their widespread menu list!!. Prawns fried rice with Prawns Masala combination deserves multiple visits to the shop.

Imperial Kitchen, Keston Road

A good restaurant where price and food quality looks directly proportional. Excellent ambience with a lot of non veg/veg menu options to choose from.

The Trivandrum Hotel, Statue

Price is neither reasonable nor overpriced. Chappathi and chicken stew/mappas is the best of the lot.

Curry Chatty, Thycaud

If you are in search for quality food with better ambience, step into Curry chatty. Though located by a pocket road, they’ve got a good amount of customers. Appam/Chappathi with mutton stew is my all-time favorite.

Hotel Ayswaria, MG Road

Famous for its chiratta puttu with chicken pirattu. The coconut-chemba mixture goes well with the spicy thick meat gravy.

Halayis, Kazhakkootam

They know how to prepare a chicken/mutton biriyani. Fair amount of rice with masala-coated chicken pieces is served in a thermos vacuum insulated jar, which makes the food more steamy and fresh. Sulaimani (Hot lemon Tea) is also served along with biriyani as a compliment drink.

Hotel SPR, Balaramapuram

Though it is quite far away from the city, most Trivandrum-Neyyattinkara commuters never miss a chance to have food from this restaurant. Try out Appam/Idiyappam with chicken/mutton. The narrow entrance to the restaurant makes it difficult for Sedans/SUVs to avail their parking facility.

Hotel Kamala, Kaithamukku

Started as a roadside eatery then, the restaurant has now got concrete walls and an AC room to please their crowd. Balan’s hotel is the much familiar word to every foodie in Trivandrum. Chicken Fry/Beef Fry with paratha at Balan’s restaurant tempts every foodie go crazy.

Hotel Rahmaniya (Kethel’s Chicken), Chalai

Kethel’s chicken is more familiar to the public. Despite the introduction of arabian dishes to their menu, their popular chicken/chappathi combos have many takers as it were before. Serves lime juice free of cost.

Steampot Restaurant, Pattom

The newest restaurant in the city pinned in a silent locality. Offers traditional dishes without losing its naturality, you may feel that ‘naadan’ taste in each and every dish.

Street Food/Food Trucks

Irani Restaurant truck, Vellayambalam –

Serves hot and fresh meat food at a reasonable price. The irani special beef-egg mix dish is a must-try one.

Natturuchi, Tagore Theatre road –

The name says it all!. The earthen pot filled with masala red fish gravy is rather-more a visual treat indeed. Have Naadan chicken curry/Fish curry with tapioca, which will make you feel you are in the long lost travancore village kitchen.

Unni chettan’s Thattukada, Pattom Junction –

Chicken roast and fry, half plate each with hot dosa-chutney really quells your late night hunger. Try also fish fry, prepared on request.

Hari chettan’s thattukada, Sreekanteswaram

Don’t expect any meat/flesh here. Try hot dosas with chutney, sambhar and special red chilly paste and an one-side-fried omelette.

Fast food/Branded food joints/Coffee shops

There are a number of Branded fast-food joints that doesn’t need any further introduction. These brands have a strong presence in the city and that is why they’d opened multiple outlets across the city, without a decrease in the average footfalls.

  1. KFC
  2. Subway
  3. Pizza Hut
  4. Chicking
  5. Dominos
  6. CCD
  7. Marijo
